Last year I introduced you to RecordScreen.io, a free online tool that allows you to film your screen without installing any software, today you will discover an alternative called Panopto Express.
Quite simple to use, Panopto will start by asking you to grant it permissions to access your microphone as well as your webcam if you have one. Please note that this tool only works on Chrome, Firefox or the latest versions of Edge.

On the Panopto interface, which looks a bit like a digital camera, you will have 3 large green buttons to activate or deactivate the microphone to record any comments that you would like to add live to your video capture, the webcam and finally to choose the screen that you want to film if you have several screens.
This last button also allows you to choose to record only a specific application or window... which can be practical if you want your audience to stay focused on the essentials!
Finally, a cogwheel allows you to access some settings such as adding a countdown before starting recording, capturing in HD format, integrating the Webcam in PiP, etc.
Once everything is ready, you just have to click on the big red button to start recording… This is the same button that you will use to stop the video. I did not see a keyboard shortcut that could have been very practical to start/stop recording. Too bad!
Once you are done, you will be able to download your recording in the format webm or send it to YouTube or Google Classroom…
In short, Panopto is still in beta as I write this, but turns out to be a very interesting tool to allow you to record your screen without having to install any software!
