Pokémon Masters: the mobile Pokémon we've been waiting for?

Unless you've been living in a cave for the past few months, you're probably aware of the upcoming release of Pokémon Masters. The latest from DeNA studios, to whom we owe Fire Emblem Heroes or, Dragalia Lost is already available in Singapore in early access (and downloadable from France using a VPN for Android, like those of ExpressVPN), and the least we can say is that DeNA has spoiled us! Let's take a look together at what is perhaps the best mobile adaptation of the license.

To download the game, simply connect from your phone to a VPN server located in Singapore in order to change the version of the Playstore. Once the game is installed, you will be asked to create an account and indicate the region from which you are playing. The game is only available in Singapore and Canada for the moment, so the choice will be made quickly. Be careful, you will have to stay connected to the VPN server permanently when you play, otherwise you risk being banned, the game regularly checks your geographic location. You will then have to wait a few moments, the time for the application to download the 360 MB of additional data necessary for the launch of the software. Take the opportunity to appreciate the artworks of the different trainers that you will have the opportunity to collect which will scroll during the loading time!

The goal of your adventure in the Pasio region will be to defeat the Pokémon Masters League (or PML for short), which is a championship bringing together the best Pokémon trainers from all regions to compete in 3 vs. 3 battles. Since each trainer can only use one Pokémon, a large part of the dynamics of the battles comes from the synergy between the different trainers and their Pokémon. In Pokémon Masters, your composition of trainers matters as much as the types of Pokémon you have in your team!

You will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the combat system through your first mission, which consists of protecting Cynthia, from the Black and White episodes, against two Punks who absolutely want to challenge her. The system is quite interesting, since it mixes real-time and turn-based combat mechanics, with an energy gauge that is somewhat reminiscent of the ATB system from Final Fantasy.

Fans of the main series will be delighted to find the same stat system (Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed) instead of the CPs that we were used to in Pokémon GO and other Pokémon Rumble Rush. A small new feature is that you will be able to launch Synchro Attacks after filling a power gauge. These attacks all have their own little cinematic, a bit like the Z Attacks from the Sun and Moon episodes.

As in console games, you will have the opportunity to gain experience and increase the level of your creatures in order to make them more and more powerful. You will even be able to make them evolve during your progression!

DeNA offers us here a game that takes most of the codes of the main Pokémon series while brilliantly adapting them to the mobile medium, and this for our greatest pleasure. Even if the scenario does not seem at first glance to be particularly sought after and that some slowdowns come from time to time to break the rhythm of the game, Pokémon Masters is a success, which will certainly not fail to improve with updates.
