Both released in early 2025, the Nvdia RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards (Ti for “Titanium”) have since acquired a good reputation among gamers and anyone who needs a high-performance graphics card.
As Black Friday approaches, there are likely plenty of deals available on these cards… but what are the real differences between the two?
A common architecture
The Nvidia RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti cards both use the Blackwell architecture, shared with the RTX 50XX cards. They benefit from new 5th generation Tensor Cores that make them efficient for use with AI models.
They benefit from GDDR7 VRAM (compared to GDDR6 for the previous generation), DLSS 4.0 which uses Tensor Cores to reconstruct pixels from a lower resolution image and a new version of Ray Tracing.
These are cards designed to play in 1440p or 4K with a Mid-range / high-end gaming PC.
Efficient, but not on the same scale
Although based on the same architecture, the Titanium version of the 5070 generation has overall superior performance:
The 5070 Ti has 8960 CUDA cores compared to 6144 for the 5070.
The 5070 Ti has 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM compared to 12GB for the 5070.
The 5070 Ti has a 256-bit memory bus compared to 192 bits for the 5070.
The 5070 Ti has a bandwidth of 896 GB/s compared to 672 GB/s for the 5070.
And this is without mentioning other, less major points on which the 5070 Ti has superior performance.
Obviously, its power consumption is higher: around 300 W (compared to 250 W for 5070).
The Ti version is considered, according to benchmarks, to have approximately 30% better performance than the non-Titanium version.
We could therefore consider that the RTX 5070 Ti is more intended for 4K gaming, compared to 1440p for the RTX 5070.
Performance comes at a price
The RTX 5070 Ti's performance is superior to the RTX 5070 in every way… and it comes at a cost.
These graphics cards were initially announced by Nvidia, in the “founder” versions, at:
$549 for the RTX 5070,
$749 for the RTX 5070 Ti.
However, the market reality is that there are currently several models of the RTX 5070 for less than €600. While the RTX 5070 Ti is difficult to find for less than €850, especially in overclocked versions.
With Black Friday just around the corner, we might find some tempting deals at gaming equipment resellers, for one or the other.
Which version of the RTX 5070 should you choose?
Basically, the 5070 Ti version is more powerful... but also much more expensive.
Which one to choose? First, you need to consider your needs.
If your budget allows it and you want to play in 4K: the 5070 Ti version seems perfectly suitable.
If you're playing at 1440p: an RTX 5070 is definitely sufficient.
Also, be careful to ensure that your configuration is consistent. The graphics card doesn't do everything on its own, and must be accompanied by components of a comparable range (motherboard, SSD, processors, RAM, etc.).
