Many websites and online services require their visitors to register and create an account to access their content. In such situations if you really want to use the site, you have two options: either you provide your personal data, or you create completely fake data (a random identity) and use a "disposable" email service for the occasion.
The first option can be annoying especially if you are not sure you will revisit the site or if you know you will only visit it once.
Fortunately, for such situations, I suggest you discover Reggy, a browser extension for Chrome that allows you to create a temporary account on any site in a more or less automated way.
Creating a random identity with Reggy
The main purpose of Reggy is to allow faster creation of anonymous accounts than if they were done manually. It is an extension available for Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. It is especially useful when you need to register on a website that asks you to create an account.
You may not want to use your real information. To get around this, the best solution is to create an account with fake or random information. This is exactly what the Reggy extension does for you, and it does it in a very credible and logical way.
When you try to register on a site, you may be asked for a lot of information, such as your name, address, date of birth… Reggy automatically fills in these fields with a random identity in one click. To use it, simply go to the official store of Google Chrome, add the extension and follow the instructions. A word of advice: always download such extensions from official sources to avoid security risks.
After installation, a Reggy icon is added to your browser toolbar. By clicking on it, you can see a series of fictitious personal information already generated for you. You can even generate random passwords. When registering on a site, simply click on the extension icon and select “Fill form”. All fields will be automatically filled with anonymous data.
Creating temporary emails with Reggy
Another major advantage of Reggy is the ability to create disposable email accounts. This is ideal if you don't want to give out your real address when registering online, allowing you to remain anonymous while avoiding receiving spam.
Reggy is compatible with several temporary email services, such as Maildrop, Mailinator, Dispostable… and many others. It automatically generates addresses that you can use on the fly, whenever you need a temporary email. These emails usually have a limited lifespan, ranging from a few minutes to a few months. After this period, they expire and are no longer accessible. So be careful if you sign up for a service that you might need later, because you could lose access to that account.
While using temporary emails is a good idea, it is also its main weakness. I tried to register with Reggy on several sites, and even though I received the verification email, I was unable to log in. The reason? The sites detect the use of a temporary email and cancel the registration.
Therefore, this extension for Chrome can be very useful and save a lot of time, but if we want it to work, it is recommended to use a real email. For this, you can create a trash email address that you will only use to register on these sites that you will only visit once or twice.
