If you use Windows 10, you benefit from Microsoft's virtual assistant: Cortana. In addition to being able to perform actions via voice commands (like Siri), this assistant allows you to search for files on your computer.

It is also possible, again thanks to this assistant, to search directly on the Internet when no results are found. Also note that it is possible to completely deactivate Cortana and keep only the internal and external search field.

The fact remains that by default, internet searches are only done on Bing, Microsoft's search engine. Unfortunately, this search engine is not the most relevant in most cases. In this article, we offer you a tip to be able to replace Bing with the search engine of your choice in Chrome or Firefox.

Chrome

If you are using Google browser, you can install the extension Chrometane. Once installed, you can choose the search engine of your choice. Chrometana will take care of redirecting Cortana's Bing query to the engine you have chosen.

Chrometana offers to use Google, DuckDuckGo or Yahoo. Future versions will allow to use any search engine like my favorite: Searx.

Firefox

If you are using Mozilla's browser, you don't need to do anything. As long as you use this browser as your default browser, searches you perform via Windows will be launched on Firefox's default search engine.

Just remember to check that the dedicated box is checked in the browser's search settings. Operation under Firefox remains much simpler and more transparent than on Google Chrome.
