Sharing large files has been a problem on the web for a while now. Most email systems impose size limitations to avoid cluttering inboxes, but also to avoid potentially dangerous files.
These limitations have allowed the rise of cloud storage systems, but also of sharing tools. among which the most famous is the famous WeTransfer. Yes, but here's the thing, most of these file sharing systems also have their limitations... and most of the time require a paid premium subscription to allow the transfer of really large files. In the case of WeTransfer, for example, the limit is set at 2GB in the free version, which is already good, and at 20GB in the paid version. And most of these competitors have similar size limits.
So what do you do when you want to share really huge files?
ToffeeShare allows you to share files without size limits thanks to P2P
The problem and cost that traditional transfer systems face is essentially related to the storage of your files. Indeed, when you use them, you upload your file to their servers and they stay there for several days (usually two weeks)… During this time, they take up space and therefore represent a cost that explains the limitations put in place.
And this is where ToffeeShare works very differently.. Indeed, this service works in peer-to-peer, that is to say that the system tries to establish the most direct connection possible between the person who sends the file and the one who will receive it. Thanks to this technical choice, the service can afford to remove any limitation on the size of the file that you wish to transfer. And in addition, since your file is not stored online, you are not likely to be the victim of hacking of the server on which it is hosted.
But the downside is that the transfer is only possible as long as your computer is on and your transfer tab is open.
So it's important to be relatively in sync with the person you're transferring the file to... ideally, they should be able to retrieve it right away.
To do this, you just have to send him the link generated by ToffeeShare and this person will only have to press the "Download" button to start the download. Conveniently, on your side you can follow the progress of the download!

Finally, the developer is planning an app for iOS and Android that will have significant advantages over the web version: a higher transfer rate, no need to keep a web page open, and a notification system to let you know your file is being downloaded. Will it be free? Time will tell!
