If you've ever tried to save a web page to your hard drive, you know that it's not ideal. In fact, you'll get the page in HTML format on one side and all the necessary resources (CSS layout, images, etc.) in a folder of the same name on the other side.

So to correctly display the saved page you will still need this HTML file and its associated folder… not exactly practical then!
But there is a pretty handy solution called Single File which comes in the form of an extension for your web browser!
Save a web page to an HTML file with Single File
Simple File is therefore a very clever extension since it will hard-code into the HTML code of the web page that you wish to save all the resources needed to display the page correctly in question: style file (CSS), image, fonts, frames…
To do this, nothing could be simpler, start by installing the extension:
- for Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/singlefile/mpiodijhokgodhhofbcjdecpffjipkle
- for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/single-file
- for Edge: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/efnbkdcfmcmnhlkaijjjmhjjgladedno
Then wait for the page you want to save to finish loading and click on the extension button in the extensions bar.
The tool will then convert the page resources into a few seconds and offer to save the result on your computer.
The HTML file you retrieve then includes the entire web page and therefore does not require an associated folder.
But that's not all, since this extension has some pretty nice options that you will be able to access by doing a right click on the extension button.
Among the notable options, you will first have the possibility to add notes or highlight text before saving a web page…

Finally, you will be able to save a selection of tabs or even all open tabs!
In short, Single Page is a pretty handy little extension if you intend to save or archive web pages neatly on your computer!
