Any teacher will tell you that one of the keys to learning well is to make learning fun. So what could be better than learning a language with the help of your favorite movies or series? This is what the site offers Skeebdo.
Indeed, Skeebdo will allow you to learn the English vocabulary of any film or series, allowing you to watch them in their original version from now on!
To get started, simply create a free account. You will then be asked for your native language and you will have to determine your level of English on a scale of 0 to 10. This will allow Skeebdo to adapt to your level.
Then choose a movie or a series episode using the search engine. You will then have all the words from the movie (or series) that are supposed to be difficult for your level of English that will be displayed with for each word its translation, the sentence in which it is used and the moment at which the word appears in the movie.
All the words will then be added to your dictionary so you can learn them.
The "Learning Center" section will allow you to review all the words you have not yet learned by alternating between word cards, multiple choice questions or questions in which you have to write the translation of the word.
Once you have mastered your vocabulary, you can move on to the "Challenges" section to take a test on the film or series in question. The tests are made up of multiple choice questions and questions in which you must translate the words you have learned from French to English or from English to French.
Also cool, in your space, you can follow your progress using daily graphs on your performance in terms of words learned… and lots of other statistics concerning your learning.
In the end, after a few days of testing, I find that this initiative is really great. I have been used to watching my films and series in English with English subtitles for many years. I understand quite a few things, but sometimes there are a few words that escape me. And these are precisely the words that Skeebdo allows me to learn. I discovered through The Big Bang Theory that prowl meant "to prowl" and scavenger meant “scavenger”… In short, it’s really a good solution to increase your English vocabulary!
