MacBook Spare Parts: Secrets of Durability and Reliability in the World of High-Tech Devices

Article updated on January 4, 2025

A MacBook's battery life depends largely on the brightness of the display and the intensity of its keyboard backlight. The lower these values, the longer your device will run on a single battery charge.

To reduce the battery drain rate but not experience any operating inconvenience, turn off automatic screen brightness adjustment and customize automatic backlight intensity adjustment based on your Macbook usage.

Step 1. Go to the “System Settings” menu, select the “Monitors” section and disable the “Automatically adjust brightness” option. The system will stop trying to make the screen brighter and you can reduce this setting to a lower level.

Step 2. Go to the "System Settings" menu, select the "Keyboard" section and enable the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" option. Now the backlight will not turn on in bright light when it is not needed.

Step 3. Go to the “System Settings” menu, select the “Keyboard” section and enable the “Turn off keyboard backlight after 5 seconds” option. The backlight will turn off if you do not use the computer for a certain period of time.

Replace high-power applications

If you click on the battery icon in the status bar of your MacBook, you will receive additional information about its operation, as well as a list of sources that discharge the device most intensively.

In addition to the high brightness of the screen, you will probably see several applications that unreasonably and quickly drain the battery. It is desirable to replace them with more energy-efficient analogues. For example, the Chrome browser consumes battery faster than Safari.

Disable additional devices and functions

Every MacBook comes with a large number of built-in modules that significantly affect how long the device can last on a single battery charge. If you're not using any of them right now, you can turn them off.

Step 1. If you don't need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections, you can turn them off by clicking the corresponding icons in the macOS status bar or via the "System Settings" menu. This will help save battery life.

Step 2. External USB devices (e.g. iPhone), FireWire, Thunderbolt, SD cards, and ExpressCard devices connected to the MacBook constantly consume battery power, so they should be turned off to increase battery life.

Step 3. Remove any CDs or DVDs from the built-in SuperDrive (if your computer has one) to eliminate periodic rotation, which uses up a lot of battery power in your MacBook.

Please note : When connecting an external monitor to 15- and 17-inch MacBooks using additional discrete graphics, power consumption increases significantly due to the switch to a discrete video chip.

Adjust the “Energy Saving” mode

Each MacBook has a separate menu for saving battery life, with which you can configure additional options to increase battery life when using a laptop without a network connection.

Step 1. Go to the "System Settings" menu, select the "Energy Saver" section and set the MacBook display to turn off after a specified period of time without direct use. Usually, 2-3 minutes is enough.

Step 2. Go to the "System Settings" menu, select the "Energy Saver" section and enable the "Put drives to sleep when possible" and "Dim the display slightly when on battery power" options (for MacBook 2016 and newer).

Step 3. Go to the "System Settings" menu, select the "Power Saver" section and disable "Enable Power Nap when on battery power". In this case, macOS will not check for new emails or update tasks in the calendar.

From the same menu, you can set the computer to automatically go into sleep mode, turn on, turn off, and restart. This will also help you increase the operating time of the computer without recharging it.

Determine if the battery needs to be replaced

If your MacBook battery life hasn't increased after doing these things and it's draining too quickly, you may need to replace the battery. To determine this, hold Option and click the battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen. You will see information about the battery status and replace the macbook spare part if necessary.

You can also estimate the battery life of your MacBook based on the number of full charge and discharge cycles. The MacBook battery is designed for full-fledged operation up to 1 cycles. In the future, its capacity will drop to a critical level and therefore it will need to be replaced with a new one. We recommend doing this in one of the authorized service centers.
