When I watch movies or series, I always prefer the original version. So to make it easier for me to understand, I got into the habit of downloading subtitles. The only problem is that it is not always easy to find a subtitle file that is perfectly synchronized with the video.
Most video players allow you to shift the subtitles but the operation is often tedious especially if they become desynchronized during the video.
But I have good news for you: the hassle with subtitles is now over! And it's thanks to SubSync!
SubSync: Subtitle Speech Synchronizer
SubSync is a utility open source (free) very handy available for Linux, macOS and Windows. There is even a 100% online version if you don't want to install software on your computer.
This utility synchronizes subtitles by listening to the audio track. The most impressive thing is that it works even if the audio track and subtitles are in different languages.
I did a simple test using subtitles that were out of sync with a video I wanted to watch. To my surprise, it worked without any issues and I got perfectly synced subtitles.
Using SubSync is simple. You launch the app and it asks you to add the subtitle file and the video file.

You will need to specify the language of the subtitle and video on the interface. If necessary, the tool may need to download additional resources depending on the language used.
The subtitle sync process takes some time, depending on the length of the video and the subtitle. In my case, it took about 1 minute 30 for a 20-minute video. You can see the status of the sync in progress and even save it before it is finished.

Once the synchronization is complete, you click the "Save" button and you can either save the changes to the original file or save it as a new subtitle file.

SubSync is a really great tool that will revolutionize your consumption of subtitles. No more headaches with out-of-sync subtitles!
