There are many solutions for taking screenshots of web pages in Chrome. The easiest one is probably the good old "Print Screen" key on your keyboard (or Cmd+Shift+4 on Mac) or theWindows capture tool…there are also many extensions dedicated to this functionality.
However, few people know this, but for a few versions there has been a feature in Chrome that allows you to do this without any extension. And what's cool is that this option, originally dedicated to developers, allows you to take screenshots by simulating certain types of devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.).
Take a screenshot in Google Chrome without an extension
- To get started, head over to Chrome and open a webpage.
- Go to Settings (the 3 vertical dots at the top right of the browser) -> More tools -> Developer tools (or to do it faster press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I)
- Enable the Device Toolbar
- Choose any device from the drop-down list or adjust the page width
- Set the zoom to 100%
- Click on the menu at the top right (the 3 vertical dots)
- Choose the “Capture Screenshot” option
And there you have it, you have taken a capture of the visible part of the web page that you have on the screen. This is then saved in PNG format.
