We have already seen quite a few online file transfer services on Byothe.fr (notably WeTransfer ou ydray), but they all have 2 drawbacks: the size of the file to be shared is limited (at least in the free versions) and your file passes through the server of the service used.
takeafile.com is a new and very original file transfer service since it gets around these 2 drawbacks. It allows you to transfer files regardless of their size and this is done peer-to-peer, that is to say without any remote storage!
Its use is extremely simple. To get started, simply drag and drop the file to be transferred onto the page of takeafile.com. You will then be able to copy a link or generate an email to send the link of your file directly to your contact.
Once he has received it, he will only have to open the link in his browser (Firefox or Chrome only, for the moment) and the download will start.
Well obviously not everything is rosy and there is a limit in this system and it is not negligible. In order for your file to be transferred, you must leave the takeafile.com page open in your browser. Since everything will be done from your computer. Moreover, you will be able to follow the download of the file by your interlocutor and thus you will know when you will be able to close the web page.
Despite this limitation, takeafile.com is, in my opinion, much better than email (Gmail limits attachments to 25MB for example), much better than your favorite cloud (Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive…) on which this file will take up space and much better than WeTransfer (which stores your file on its server.
In short, takeafile.com is an excellent file transfer tool that is completely anonymous since the data goes directly from your computer to that of your interlocutor. In addition, since the transfer only depends on your Internet connection and that of the person receiving the file, download rates are generally better than on other services that will first retrieve your file from their servers.
Add it to your Internet favorites as soon as possible!
