Electrically assisted bicycles (EABs) are all the rage, and rightly so. They offer an ideal compromise between gentle mobility, fuel savings, and time savings in the city. Among the many brands on the market, HITWAY positions itself as an entry/mid-range player, offering accessible models with attractive technical specifications.
Le HITWAY BK27S is an electric bike of type city bike, designed for everyday commuting, with large wheels, three-level assistance, and a sleek design. After several urban journeys on it, here is my feedback, with its strengths, its weaknesses, and my advice for getting the most out of it.
Assembly: accessible… even if you are not a DIY pro
If you buy it online, the BK27S comes in a box with several pieces to assemble. And even without being a screwdriver expert, I was able to complete the assembly in just over 1 hour, at my own pace. In particular, I have to remove all the protective hooks for transport, install the front wheel, the handlebars, the pedals, adjust the brakes and check the tightening.
The whole thing is relatively intuitive, even if the instructions (quite comprehensive) could be a little clearer at times. Note: some parts, notably the wheels, are attached via quick tightening, which can save time but raises security questions, especially in an urban environment where theft is unfortunately all too common.

Once assembled, the bike inspires confidence. The steel frame feels sturdy, and the overall look is great.

Electric assistance: a great dynamic… but could be improved
The HITWAY BK27S is equipped with a 250 W motor in the rear hub, coupled with a pedaling detection system PAS (Pedal Assist System)As soon as the assistance kicks in, the engine shows itself responsive, lively, and very pleasant to use, especially in mode 3 where acceleration is sharp and immediate. This provides a real feeling of dynamism, ideal for city acceleration, false flats or hard starts.

Assistance is divided into three levels, each corresponding to a fixed maximum speed :
- Level 1: up to 15 km/h
- Level 2: up to 20 km/h
- Level 3: up to 25 km/h

This system works well overall, but you should be aware that it This is not assistance proportional to the effortThe motor adapts its power to a target speed, making pedaling less flexible. For example, if you want to ride at 22 km/h, you'll have to choose between mode 2 (too slow) and mode 3 (a little too fast), which can make it difficult to maintain an intermediate speed, especially when riding with other cyclists.
Similarly, the assistance takes about 1 to 1,5 pedal turns to engage, and sometimes continues briefly after you stop pedaling. This behavior may be surprising at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly and it's common for an e-bike.
In the end, despite this somewhat rigid logic in speed management, the assistance of the BK27S remains rather effiefficient and pleasant, and provides good driving sensations. We would simply have liked a little more flexibility, but for this price range, the engine performance is there.
Nice surprise: a real bike that can be used without assistance
One of the BK27S's greatest assets is its 7-speed mechanical transmission (classic derailleur). This technical detail is not really one: it allows you to continue riding even without a motor, whether to save battery or simply to do a little sport.

In practice, the gear changes are smooth, the pedaling remains pleasant, and the bike maintains good inertia thanks to its large 28-inch wheels. This makes it a true hybrid bike, both electric when you want it to be, and perfectly functional in "muscular" mode. Of course, given the weight of the bike, without assistance the effort will be more intense than with a fully muscular bike.
Autonomy, battery and recharging: rather convincing
The HITWAY BK27S is equipped with a battery 36V – 13Ah, or a total capacity of approximately 468 WhThe manufacturer announces a theoretical autonomy of from 50 to 100 km, depending on use, user weight, terrain and level of assistance used.

In fact, during daily urban journeys, almost always in gear 3 (with a few hills, red lights, stops and without being a lightweight), I got a little over 50 km of autonomy, which is still very reasonable for this price range. Recharging is done via a port located on the battery, after removing it from the bike.
Small downside: access to the battery is a bit tight, and requires some skill for extraction. It's not prohibitive, but you have to get the hang of it.

Comfort and ergonomics: well designed for urban use
The BK27S offers an upright and natural riding position, ideal for city driving. The 28 x 2,0-inch wheels provide excellent stability and filter out uneven terrain well, especially in combination with the front suspension.

La stock saddle is surprisingly comfortable, even for me who is used to Brooks saddles. It is well padded, sufficiently wide, and incorporates a perineal release (central hole) to relieve pressure during prolonged use. It will not replace a very ergonomic high-end saddle, but for a bike of this category, it plays its role perfectly, and you will probably be able to use it without needing an immediate replacement.

The bike is designed for cyclists measuring between 1,70 m and 1,95 m, and its low frame makes it easy to step over, especially during frequent stops in the city. The mechanical disc brakes, both front and rear, ensure progressive and efficient braking, without requiring excessive pressure.

Finally, with its about 26 kg, the BK27S remains easy to handle in use, but can be a little cumbersome on stairs or for frequent hand transport.

Main features and equipment of the HITWAY BK27S electric bike
The HITWAY BK27S model comes with a comprehensive equipment package for urban or suburban use. Here's what you'll find—and what I think.
250 W hub motor (32 Nm)
The bike has a motor of 250 W, compliant with European legislation for e-bikes, with a torque announced at 32 Nm. This motor is sufficient to give good acceleration and overcome small slopes without difficulty. As I noted above, the acceleration is really pleasant, even if the assistance takes a little time to start.
Removable battery 36 V / 13 Ah (≈ 468 Wh)
The battery is a 36V/13Ah lithium-ion cell, or approximately 468Wh according to the manufacturer. It is removable, which allows it to be removed for charging indoors (practical when there is no outlet in the garage). However, access to it is a little narrow, which makes handling it a little difficult.
28 x 2,0 inch “massive” tires
The HITWAY BK27S is equipped with tires of dimension 28 × 2,0 inches, which gives it a nice presence on the road. These wider tires offer more stability and comfort, especially in urban areas with uneven surfaces.
Front suspension fork
The bike has a front suspension fork, which helps absorb shock from cobblestones or poorly adapted sidewalks. This is a real plus for city use, especially if your journeys include some slightly bumpy areas.

Shimano 7-speed transmission
The HITWAY BK27S transmission is provided by Shimano with 7 speeds. This allows you to switch to "classic bike" mode without assistance if you wish, and to adapt the pace effectively according to the terrain or fatigue. A great advantage in terms of versatility, even if the classic bike mode remains a bit sporty given the weight of the bike (26 kg).

Mechanical disc brakes (front/rear)
Braking is provided by mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear. These aren't top-of-the-line hydraulics, but for urban use they're still more than adequate, and I found the braking very pleasant.
LCD control screen
The engine is controlled using a clear LCD display that is easy to read, even in direct sunlight. Navigation is done using three physical buttons: Power, + and –, to turn on the bike, select the assistance level, check the speed, remaining battery life or activate the headlights.

Lighting + useful accessories
The bike includes a powerful LED front headlight, bright tail light, sturdy rear rack, a sturdy kickstand, and front and rear mudguards. This equipment makes the bike ready for everyday use, shopping, luggage, day and night trips... which is really appreciable.

Front frame rack mounts
In addition to the already fitted rear rack, the BK27S also features integrated mounts for installing a front luggage rack directly on the frameThis allows the bike to be transformed into a real utility bike, ideal for carrying a basket, a delivery bag or even a small crate.
A point rarely present on models in this range, and which will please those looking for a truly versatile bike, as practical during the week as for a weekend ride.
