Le code PIN (Personal Identification Number) very rarely (or even never in fact!) called NIP in French (Personal Identification Number) is a code that allows you to unlock the SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module) of your phone (or smart cards in general). Most of the time it is composed of 4 digits and is requested each time you restart your phone in order to be able to access all the information stored on the SIM card… and to authenticate yourself with your operator's network in order to be able to make your calls or send your SMS.
Typically, your SIM card comes with a predefined PIN code or even a sequence of four zeros (0000). Fortunately, it is always possible to change the PIN code to a more secure and personal one!
Most phones have various menus that allow you to change your code PIN, but here is a technique that will allow you to modify it in seconds on any cell phone.
Change your phone's PIN code in seconds
To change the PIN code, simply go to the area on your phone where you can dial a phone number (the phone app on a smartphone or the phone on a more basic cell phone).
At this point, you just have to enter the following code:
**twenty-one*Old PIN code*New PIN code*New PIN code#
And that's it.
For example, your old PIN is 0000 and you want to change it to 1234 (not very secure, but for the sake of example).
You will then enter the following code:
** 04 * 0000 * 1234 * 1234 #
The big advantage of this solution for changing the PIN code is thatit will work with any phone and will prevent you from getting lost in menus and submenus that are not always very user-friendly...
Before doing this, don't forget to memorize your new PIN code!
If you change your PIN, choose a good PIN
Choosing a good PIN is a bit like choosing a good mot de passe. It should be easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess. Here are some tips:
- Avoid easy sequences like 1234 or 0000.
- Don't take your birth date, your partner's or your children's. It's the first thing someone who knows you would try.
- Mix the numbers randomly, but find a logic of your own to remember them easily. For example, mixed birth dates of different members of your family, but not in order.
In Summary, changing your PIN is a crucial step in securing your phone. And with the quick technique we shared, there’s really no excuse not to do it. Take those few seconds to protect your digital life, it’s worth it!
