Nowadays, screensavers are a bit outdated and useless… we generally prefer to put our screens to sleep after a certain time. However, you can use a screensaver in an original way. And we will explain how.
Did you know, for example, that the International Space Station (ISS) continuously broadcasts a live video of the Earth as seen from the station? Well, imagine that it is possible to use this video as a screensaver for your computer. Not bad, right?
To be able to set this up, you will need to download and install HTML Screensaver, a small software that allows you to use any web page as a screensaver.
So, once the software is installed, choose one of these streams as your screensaver:
- Earth seen from the International Space Station
- the ISS seen from the ISS
- the position of the ISS above the earth (Google service)
And voila !
I bet that for once, you will spend time in front of your computer… on standby!
Be careful though, This system consumes a lot of data given the quality of the HD videos and can be problematic in certain cases (especially if you have a limited data subscription or if you use connection sharing from your smartphone... you never know).
