Unable to open your file PDF… what a pain! Error during download, hard drive failure, malware, corruption during file copying… there are many reasons why a PDF won’t open.
The easiest and safest solution in this case is to try to recover a new copy of the original file… but this is not always possible. If you are out of solutions, we will see how to try to repair a corrupted PDF!
For this we will use the free PDF Fixer software.
Repair damaged PDF with PDF Fixer
The first thing to do is, of course, to download the software for free PDF Fixer on its publisher's website. The file is just under 20MB and the software can be installed on your computer or used in a portable version (without installation).
From a technical point of view, PDF Fixer will analyze the data still present in your damaged PDF. Then, it will restructure the damaged PDF data, rebuilding the XREF tables, and then restoring these damaged PDF documents into readable PDF files.
To use it, it's very simple. Just launch the software and then drag a damaged document onto its interface to start the repair.
The program will run for a few moments and if all went well, a message will tell you that your PDF is repaired. The repaired version and a copy of the corrupted version are then created at the address indicated by PDF Fixer (by default C:\FixedPDFs\).
Additionally, PDF Fixer will open a window allowing you to preview your repaired file!
As you will have understood, this utility is extremely simple to use and does not require any particular settings!
PDF Fixer is really a very effective tool that will undoubtedly repair all your damaged PDF files provided that they are recoverable… Note that there are online alternatives such as the PDF repair tool PDF2GB.
