Well, honestly, I was hoping to stop talking to you about Star Wars, but the more it goes on, the more there is... but it's for a good cause since we still come across incredible stuff.
This time it's about watching Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope, fully done in ASCII in Windows 10.
If you are not familiar with theASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), it is a computer display standard that is often diverted to create images from characters… and in our current case, an entire film… and the feat is here!
Actually, the hidden feature that allows you to watch this movie has been present since Windows XP, but we will see here how to access it in Windows 10.
Step 1
In Windows 10, press the key Windows + S to launch Cortana. Type “Control Panel” and launch it by clicking on it.
Step 2
Then click on Program
Then click on Turn Windows features on or off
Step 3
A new window will open. In it, locate the option Telnet client and check it. Then press OK.
Step 4
Now the real fun begins! You'll need to launch the Windows Command Prompt.
To do this, press the key Windows + R, enter CMD and click OK.
In the Command Prompt that will open, type or paste the following command:
Telnet Towel.blinkenlights.nl
Now, sit back in your chair and watch the whole of Episode IV in ASCII. No need to turn up the volume, there is no sound. The dialogues are transcribed on the screen.
Well... but if you manage to watch it in its entirety, then you really are an ultimate fan!
Finally, if you are not on Windows 10, know that it is also possible to achieve the same result in other versions of Windows starting from Windows XP. The only step that can change is the activation of the Telnet Client.
