Weather is not just a pretty (or not) pin-up showing clouds, anticyclones, temperatures on TV… With the web, the possibilities are endless. Some hobbies require having a good knowledge of weather conditions and especially wind.
Passionate about kitesurfing, airplane and helicopter pilot, Ivo always needs to have information about the weather and wind. That's why he launched the site Windyty in 2014.
Windyty is a free site that allows you to consult a large number of parameters related to weather conditions in a very pleasant interface:
- Wind (+ gusts)
- Temperatures (+ dew point)
- Clouds (+ humidity, ozone layer, cloud base, CAPE)
- Rain or snow (+ max rain rate, rain accumulation, snow accumulation)
- Waves, sea (+ Currents, temperature, waves, swell, Swell period)
- Pressure
All this information can be viewed and displayed on a map that takes up the full size of your browser, which allows for very pleasant reading of the data. This data can be viewed historically and forecastingly.
You can also display weather stations, airports (along with their METAR and TAF information) and webcams (with their image) on the map.

Weather data comes from several sources but in particular from GFS and MeteoBlue.
Windyty also has a mobile application under Android and soon a version for iOS.
In short, I am not a weather expert, nor a big user of this data, but Windyty made a very good impression on me and seems to be a very complete tool! I have no doubt that you will like it. Do not hesitate to share your impressions with me in the comments below.
