In recent years, video projector technologies have continued to become more democratic. This is largely due to the fact that LEDs, which are durable and inexpensive, have replaced lamps, which are fragile and expensive. As a result, manufacturers are now able to offer products that are robust, durable, powerful and very reasonably priced.
And that is precisely what the XGIMI brand with its range of video projectors and in particular the XGIMI MoGo Pro which in addition to all that is a projector that can accompany you everywhere, because it has a battery under its hood!
But that's not all! Indeed, This elegant projector is truly portableEquipped with speakers and an AndroidTV system, it definitely serves as a travel multimedia center!
Unpacking and getting started: a beautiful object in a beautiful case
Packaged in a sober and elegant white cardboard box on which only a photo of the XGIMI MoGo Pro stands out, this video projector is sold with the essentials and nothing more. Indeed, the box only includes the projector itself, its power supply and a little documentation: a manual, an FAQ and the warranty. Nothing more.
Small regret, we would have liked to find in the packaging a carrying bag or a cover to store the MoGo Pro during trips or travels. You will have to go through the checkout to buy a bag on the XGIMI website.
The lines of the projector are quite attractive and its size allows it to be classified as a portable video projector with only 14.6 cm high, 9.5 cm wide and 10.5 cm deep. Its weight also plays in its favor since it weighs only 0.9 kg and can therefore accompany you almost everywhere.
Combining white plastic and a silver metal grille, the MoGo Pro's finishes are really good quality and the device seems robust.
On the top side of the device, under the XGIMI logo, there is a status LED as well as 3 touch buttons for adjusting the volume and pausing playback.
The rear panel houses all the connections (jack socket, HDMI port, USB port and power supply) as well as the on/off button.
The front face is also very sober since we find integrated in a black glass band the projector itself as well as a sensor for focusing the image (auto keytone).
Finally, under the device, a screw thread will allow you to fix it to a stand or to the ceiling since this device manages both projection modes.
The remote control is resolutely simplistic. The number of buttons is really limited and focuses on ease of use. However, it is also elegant and is quite easy to handle. It is also equipped with a microphone to use Google's voice interface.
The XGIMI MoGo Pro is really full of assets…
Image quality: Full HD
Image quality is not really THE strong point of the MoGo Pro. However, when used in a dark room, or even better in complete darkness, this little device works wonders!
If the light (or rather dark) conditions allow it, the size of the projected screen will be able to reach a very respectable 120″ diagonal (about 300cm) by positioning the XGIMI MoGo Pro at 320 cm. However, to really appreciate this device, it seemed to me that a diagonal of 100″ (about 250cm) with a distance of 266cm was to be preferred provided that you are really in the dark. The closer you bring the device to the screen, the more you will be able to benefit from sufficient brightness.
Regarding image resolution, the XGIMI MoGo Pro achieves a Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) that fully meets expectations.
In terms of image settings, XGIMI offers several display modes: clear, standard, soft, office, game or custom. The custom mode allows you to manually adjust the brightness, contrast, colors, etc.
Auto Keystone: no more trapeze exercises!
Among the quite remarkable features of this device, we find the Auto Keystone. Behind this somewhat enigmatic name (keystone meaning "keystone") hides a very appreciable tool. Indeed, when you turn on or move the device, it will automatically detect the projection surface in order to correct the trapezoid and thus adjust the image. This miracle is possible thanks to a small sensor located on the front of the XGIMI MoGo Pro very close to the projector.
This is really super practical and particularly suited to a device that is meant to be portable and whose positioning is likely to change regularly. This way, you won't have to manually adjust the trapeze as soon as you move! Practical.
It is also important to mention that this function can be disabled to avoid untimely adjustments if the projector always remains in the same place for example. Likewise, it is possible to manually adjust the keystone with a really well-designed system that will make you adjust the position of each angle one by one.
As for sharpness, it adjusts automatically, but it is also possible to adjust it using the remote control if necessary. To do this, you need to toggle the small switch on its lower edge to "Focus" and use the volume controls to adjust.
Speakers by Harman/Kardon
Long story short: the sound is good, it's from Harman/Kardon! XGIMI has always been associated with this brand known for its audio quality and that's a good thing.
The two 3W speakers that equip the XGIMI MoGo Pro do the job really well. The power is relatively modest, but these HPs produce a clear, clean and balanced sound. The music comes out well, the dialogues are clear and the sound does not saturate.
Obviously, it's far from a Home Cinema sound bar, but frankly for this size it's very good!
Moreover, XGIMI has thought of everything since the device can be connected to a more powerful speaker using a 3.5mm jack output (for a wired connection) or simply via Bluetooth!
A projector boosted by AndroidTV
What I really like about XGIMI projectors is that they all integrate AndroidTV. It is therefore no longer necessary to provide a box or a computer to connect to the device. In mobile conditions, this is particularly appreciable!
The AndroidTV system is installed in its native version, without any overlay. It is therefore very easy to access the Google Play Store to install all kinds of applications. Some streaming applications are present by default such as YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Molotov, MyCanal, MyTF1, FranceTV… I was also able to run Free's OQEE to watch TV at home while connected to my box's WiFi.
Only Netflix is missing for obscure reasons that would be linked to a blockage on the part of the streaming platform. However, XGIMI offers a workaround and has even slipped a small operating mode into the projector box. The brand thus offers to install Netflix using the DestopManager application available on the Google Play Store.
Silence…we’re filming!
The XGIMI MoGo Pro projector specifications claim a noise level of less than 30 decibels.
Long live LED projectors which eliminate this major drawback of bulb projectors which are often horribly noisy.
The finding is clear. This device is truly ultra quiet. You really have to get your ear close to the projector to hear a slight fan noise. When I'm sitting next to the MoGo Pro I hear nothing... absolutely nothing!
This is undeniably one of the big strong points of this device.
Some disappointing points despite everything
Brightness and contrast
The XGIMI MoGo Pro projector advertises 300 ANSI Lumens of brightness. Looking at the product specifications, this is what made me tick a little… and after testing it, it confirmed my concerns. If the brightness of the device is quite sufficient and pleasant in a dark room, you can forget about using it in broad daylight or in a room that is too bright. So to really enjoy it, you will have to wait until nightfall, close the shutters or drastically reduce the distance between the wall and the projector in order to obtain sufficient brightness in all situations.
In the photos below, I positioned the device about 180cm from my wall during the day in a relatively dark room, but far from complete darkness. It is still sufficient to watch a film in good conditions.
For comfortable use throughout the day with ambient light, you should choose models with greater brightness. With its 600 ANSI lumens, the XGIMI Elfin for example does the job very well!
A little short autonomy
I have positioned this point on the negative side even if The presence of an integrated battery in the XGIMI MoGo Pro is undeniably a real asset, because we will nevertheless regret its autonomy which seems a little short to go the distance.
Indeed, in the context of nomadic use, this battery is really a strong point. Whether you are at home, in your van, at the campsite or on your terrace, you will be able to use it everywhere without having to pull an extension cord! It's really great.
On the other hand, do not plan to view Gone with the wind (3 h 45) or Ben Hur (3h32), because you might be cut off well before the end! And for good reason, the MoGo Pro's battery life is only 2h30 for video (4h30 for audio). OK, most movies are less than 2h30, but still, it's a bit short.

In conclusion…
With the MoGo Pro, XGIMI has once again produced a video projector that stands out from the crowd. Designed for portability, its built-in battery is a real plus for adventurers, even if its battery life is a bit short. Its Full HD image quality is good without being outstanding, but we must not forget that this is a compact and portable device.
Finally, its brightness and contrast, which are a little low in broad daylight, are offset by a multitude of positive points to be found in the integration of AndroidTV, the automatic image adjustment, the sound quality, but also its very, very low noise level!
In short, XGIMI has achieved yet another great feat and once again offers a very good product with the XGIMI MoGo Pro!

From an ergonomic point of view, I think it could work. It is quite possible to put it on its back and project onto the ceiling…
On the other hand, the fan air outlet is at the back and therefore this could pose a problem in terms of cooling...
Another solution would be to find a foot that allows it to be fixed facing upwards... and in this case, no problem...
To choose the right Home Cinema video projector, we will favor a Full HD model (1080p), Ultra HD (2160p), or even 4K from Sony, with good contrast (from 2000:1) to exploit the full potential of high-definition sources such as a Blu-ray player, a 4K player, or a PC equipped with a suitable video card.
