Un wiki is a collaborative system for creating online content. The best known of all (and yet it is not the first historically) is of course Wikipedia, the famous collaborative online encyclopedia. On Wikipedia, thousands of people work together to add content and update it. But there are also a multitude of wikis on the web… for just about everything: wikis around games, maintained by fans, wikis of official organizations, companies…
To create a wiki, there are many online tools, paid or free, but there is one that you probably did not suspect: it is Google Docs.
Create a Wiki with Google Docs
And that is precisely what is proposed You Need A Wiki…the ability to create a wiki using Google Docs. Its goal is to make a very simple tool that can be used by anyone.
To get started, you need to create an account on the site and link it with your Google account. Because this tool is fully integrated with Google Drive and Google Docs.
Then, in a few seconds, the system will allow you to import your existing folders and files from Google Docs. Your documents will then be organized and you will be able to access them using a nested tree menu with an interface that allows you to find the documents you are looking for more quickly. You can then set up a table of contents and create links between the documents.
Once everything is in place, you can easily share your wiki with anyone in your team or your contacts… they can have access to it in “collaboration” mode to work together on the project, or in “read-only” mode to avoid accidental modifications.
YNAW aims to facilitate teamwork and knowledge sharing. The site is free for one user, however, you will have to pay to add more accounts.
